Great Wall Center is the first Asian oriented community based nonprofit agency in Malden/TriCity area that focuses on the overall well being and integration of the Asian/Asian American populations, which increased from 5% of the city's population in 1990 to 15% in 2000 according to the U.S. Census. About one quarter of the city's residents speak limited English as a second language.

Its initial endeavor was to work with local stakeholders in health and low income domains to address the Asian population's lack of community involvement, political representation, low socio-economic ceilings and lack of accessibility to essential services in the city of Malden.
