MAPAC Volunteer of the Year Awards
Malden Asian Pacific American Coalition wishes to express its sincere gratitude and congratulations to four unique individuals who made significant contribution to their friends, families, associations and schools in Malden. Their vision, leadership, unwavering commitment, and personal sacrifice have created new hopes, transformed lives, and helped Malden’s Asian Americans to maintain their cultural heritages. These individuals symbolized a force of change for MAPAC and its idealism for truth inclusion; and the new hopes for the growing Asian American community in Malden. To publicly thank their robust effort to bring inclusion here, we would like to ask you to join us and collectively show our heartfelt appreciation to them!
Nominated by fellow board members, Al Wing 李銱堂is a retired researcher at the Harvard University School of Public Health, a veteran and a past commander of the Boston Chinatown Post 328 . He served Malden’s Asian community as a founder, president and officer for the Board of the Great Wall Center for over ten years. His unwavering support and thoughtfulness for the Asian community in Malden were great inspiration. Collectively, his leadership helped advance the voice of Malden’s Asian community and inspired civic participation of the younger generations.
Nominated by members of the MADAC Parent Association, Bi Wun Zhen 甄碧雲is a grandmother and caregiver of a child born with severely disabling conditions. Ms. Zhen’s unwavering care and support of her daughter’s family and granddaughter who may required intensive support at home, not only transformed the life of this young girl and the entire family, she also inspired many other parents sharing the same problems, and to steadfastly fight for the well being of all children with special health condition.. It exemplified the ideal of harmony, inclusion and social justice in the Asian American community.
Nominated by faculty, Herman Tse 謝永得 is a senior at the Malden High School and current president of the Asian American Club which is in its infancy and second year of development. He volunteered for MAPAC’s celebration in the past 3-4 consecutive years despite increasing school and personal responsibilities. He assumed key leadership of the Asian Club last fall; and made it possible for MAPAC to have a school based energetic leader to collaborate with for this important event.
Nominated by fellow board members, Wei Kwan Tam 譚蔚筠 is founder, and a committed board member of the Great Wall Center for 10 years. She is a Bank Examiner of the Division of Banks; and a community volunteer in Malden and Reading. As an officer of this grassroots organization, she was in charge of its accounting and bookkeeping systems with prudence and consistency for ten years, making it possible for this aspiring nonprofit to dream big with very limited resources.
